Starrett Corporation has a long and rich history in the world of New York real estate. The Company is probably best known as the company that built the Empire State Building, Stuyvesant Town, the Javits Center, and several large New York City residential properties including Parkchester in the Bronx and Brooklyn's Starrett City.

The Company has a long history of building for third parties as well as development for its own account.

In the 1920's, Starrett demolished the original Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and erected the Empire State Building in its place in less than one year, putting it up at the rate of one story per day and completing the job in 1931 at $2 million under the original estimate.

During the 1940’s through the 1970's the Company built large residential complexes in New York City including, Parkchester, in the Bronx, with 12,273 apartments in 51 high-rise buildings, Stuyvesant Town on Manhattan's Lower East Side with 8,755 apartments in 35 13-story buildings, and Peter Cooper Village.

As developer, Starrett is a leader in the development ownership management of government assisted and market rate residential projects throughout the New York Metropolitan area. As developer for its own accounts the Company developed in excess of 20 buildings containing over 10,000 apartment units. These projects included both ground-up development as well as significant rehabilitation and redevelopment projects

Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Grenadier Realty Corp., its entire portfolio is expertly managed by a staff of experienced high qualified individuals. Grenadier also performs property management and construction management activities for a variety of third party real estate owners.
